Sunset: 6:37pm. Moon: Waning crescent. Sunny and clear with a high of 66 and a low of 48. A well-earned autumn is finally here after a horrid summer of broken records. A light breeze while the American government continues to decay.
I’m recovering from a bout of public speaking and re-reading Bertrand Russell on Origen, one of the first Christian theologians, whose second-century philosophy reads like science fiction: “The stars are living rational beings to whom God has given souls that were already in existence. The sun, he thinks, can sin.”
Yesterday I saw a chipper commercial for a website that makes it cheap and easy to run a background check on your friends and neighbors. Maybe there are no more mysteries in this century. More and more, I like the idea of living beneath intelligent stars and a sinful sun.
