Snapshots of the places I read and write. Despite my best intentions, my desk is always messy, an uneven terrain of the books, photos, notes, and riff-raff that make a life. These are landscapes that I want to remember.
Indianapolis, 2013. My writing desk during a five-week residency in Indianapolis. Books that I brought with me include: High-Rise by J.G. Ballard, The Image by Daniel Boorstin, Species of Spaces and Other Pieces by Georges Perec, as well as biographies of André Breton and Marcel Duchamp. Also: The White Album by Joan Didion, Vollmann’s meditation on violence, and Dostoyevsky’s Notes from the Underground. Having these books nearby helped me write this thing, a collection of myths and speculative histories of the Circle City.
